INSTRUMENTS OF HAPPINESS // LA GUITARE, LA RELÈVE

LE VIVIER AT LA CHAPELLE SCÈNES CONTEMPORAINES // The guitar, the new generation

Instruments of Happiness - La Relève
Instruments of Happiness - La Relève

Tim Brady invites two Montreal-based composer-guitarists of the next generation, Emmanuel Jacob Lacopo and Kevin O'Neil, to explore in concert the infinite possibilities of music for electric - and electrified classical - guitar.

The concert’s first half features Lacopo, who employs electronic devices to create soundscapes for both electric and classical guitar, either with his own music or with existing, often re-imagined, repertoire. Through this program, Lacopo redefines the constraints of the 21st-century guitar and reshapes what classical music can sound like today.

In the second half of the concert, O’Neil showcases the electric guitar through his project {teotwawki}, weaving “long, expansive soundscapes that allow the soul to get lost in oceans of timbre and time.” With a debut album releasing this year, O’Neil will introduce new material to a live audience before recording begins in the studio.
