Oper’Actuel is a flagship event of Chants Libres, a company dedicated to the creation of new opera. This ninth edition brings together audiences, artists, and industry professionals through performances, workshops, discussions, and professional showcases highlighting today’s emerging operatic practices. The festival’s centerpiece, the Oper’Actuel performance, offers a carte blanche to soprano Sarah Albu, accompanied by the Paramirabo Ensemble under the direction of Stephen Mulligan.

Throughout the week, the festival will also present Come Closer, a new work by Toronto-based Opera 5, directed by Rachel Krehm; askîwan, a work by Cree-Métis creator Tyson Houseman; as well as the premiere presentation of Akasha: The Breath of the Universe, an intercultural opera-dance work by Hamsa créations lyriques, led by soprano Kripa Nageshwar.
