Inner Voices: Hurry up
Maxime Daigneault and Véronique Girard present *Hurry Up*, a manifesto on time.
Here, children claim the right to take their time, to free themselves from overwhelming schedules and the strict rules imposed on them.
The world of the work plays with the parameter of time, allowing the opera to highlight a contrast between children’s inner lives and the expectations of their environment.
In *Hurry Up*, the action is condensed into that urgent moment when a child must get ready before going out to recess. Time stretches toward the revealing instant when it’s time to put on shoes and tie the laces—but how?
This work was developed through *Inner Voices*, a co-creation opera project by and for children that invites young participants to take part in creating operatic works inspired by their imagination. Grade 5 students from Barclay School contributed to the creation of *Hurry Up* and will join the performance on stage.
This project received support from the *La culture à l’école* program of the Ministère de l’Éducation (MEQ), as well as from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (MCCQ) and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
