« Trail » (2021/2022)

For flute (also bass flute), Bb clarinet (also bass clarinet), violin, 2 celli, 2 percussions & piano.

The traces left by objects, thoughts and experiences are sometimes visible but, by their very nature, are manifested by absence. The absence of "something" that has happened.
At the same time, going through them and revealing them in sound, phrasing, texture and material, entails the production of a new trace, one that shall remain in the listener's memory. From this point of view, the work is an intermediary, a link in the transmission that carries traces of history. I place myself, as a composer, in that place of the craftsman of that continuity.
Rastros, “Trail” is thought of as a work of chamber music for a specific sound space. It claims, beyond the combination of timbre, the fusion in a single sound, a sound of an overall instrument that takes precedence over the parts that constitute it. 

Commissioned by the ensemble Stick & Bow, the work proposes the reunion of this duo (Cello and Marimba) with the ensemble Paramirabo (Pierrot quintet with percussion).

Created on February 3rd 2022, at the Darling Foundry in Montreal (Canada), as part of a monographic concert partially broadcast in streaming.
