The virtuoso string quartet continues its exploration of the seemingly infinite possibilities of timbre and sound color by performing works that draw from glitch art, minimalism, noise and dark ambient.
This concert weaves together the acoustic quartet and electronics with a creation by Nicole Lizée and works by Tom Johnson, Michael Oesterle and Anthony Tan. Lizée reworks musical motifs with the brilliance of a talented DJ while the minimalist Johnson’s piece takes us into a poetic musical world combining mathematical formulas. Oesterle balances geometric and expressive patterns that evoke nostalgia, while Tan, winner of the 2021 Jules-Léger Prize, offers a surprising mix of genres, combining classical quartet and exploration of modal and tonal counterpoint.
