Carl Ludwig Hübsch: Cartographie - Origines

Carl Ludwig Hübsch
Carl Ludwig Hübsch

This concert is the culmination of the research and creative work of German composer and tuba player Carl Ludwig Hübsch during his residency in Quebec.

Welcomed by SuperMusique, the composer encountered new and improvised music from Quebec. From Montreal to Rimouski, passing through Quebec City, he interacted with, played with, and discussed with instrumentalists from Ensemble SuperMusique (ESM), the Grand groupe régional d’improvisation libérée (GGRIL), the Ensemble de musique improvisée de Québec (EMIQ), and Bakarlari. These encounters allowed him to probe their instrumental practices, understand what type of experience these artists wished to have, and question them about how a new work should ideally be "improvised." Aiming to reflect the diverse musical and geographical origins of these instrumentalists, he presents a work inspired as much by the place as by the social environment; a networked work that also integrates elements recorded during his exchanges with the musicians.
