SÉVERINE BALLON (FR) | 13 APRIL

RÉSONANCE CROISÉE • musical residencies and creations Quebec/Europe

Séverine Ballon, an artist deeply committed to the modernist repertoire, she pushes back the frontiers of the cello's expressiveness, which no longer sounds like a cello. In a concert where instrumental technique and purity of sound serve a resolutely free exploration of the instrument, the cellist and composer delivers four strong works by Philippe Leroux, Liza Lim, Thierry Blondeau and one of her own compositions.

The works on the programme open up the field of the imagination to unknown territories, sometimes exploring resonance and long chord holds, sometimes creating expressive glissandi evoking the journey of the Cassini space probe. Séverine Ballon combines the power of the cello with a deliberately "impure" sound and a fundamentally original search for harmony.
