This concert is a noteworthy collaboration between Ensemble SuperMusique and Quatuor Bozzini, both reputable ensembles in the Canadian new music scene. Dedicated to new music and improvisation, the groups are comprised of virtuosic instrumentalists emboldened to performing from graphic scores and verbal improvisation instructions.
Through a project that stimulates all curiosities and converges on a combination of vital forces in current Canadian music, Norwegian guitarist and composer Kim Myhr will join the group, comprised of string quartet, two percussionists and two saxophonists.
Together they will perform new works, especially commissioned for this extraordinary partnership. These pieces contain instructions that disturb each ensemble’s instinct, and take each ensemble out of its comfort zone. A new sound is created, that of Ensemble SuperMusique + Quatuor Bozzini.
The program consists of three premieres; Septentrion by young Canadian composer, Isaiah Ceccarelli, préoccupant, c’est préoccupant by the Lady of musique actuelle in Quebec Joane Hétu, and a work by Kim Myhr (NO). To complement the program, they will perform excerpts of Microexercises (2006) by Christian Wolff, one of the giants of American experimental music.
