The Poet Assassinated is a musical theatre piece loosely adapted from Guillaume Apollinaire’s book of the same name, in which two actresses embody a multitude of characters—at once grotesque, tragic, dreamy, and ambiguous. Through pantomime, object theatre, song cabaret, and puppetry, the stage is swept up in a whirlwind of poetic madness that recounts the poet’s birth, life, and death in a series of living pictures.
Geneviève Ackerman (actor - singer - composer - director)
Geneviève Ackerman studied composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal with Nicolas Gilbert, Jimmie Leblanc and Maxime McKinley. Sounds, noises, vibrations: by listening to the inner life of sounds, she discovers what she considers the true gateway to being alive. Each sound is like a being in its own right, speaking to us of an elusive life that is nevertheless fully present. Working with sound means caring for a fragile life that expresses itself through the invisible. Geneviève is constantly searching for the unheard, the unknown and the wondrous, whatever means it takes to get there—writing, improvisation, with or without technology, and so on. Over time, she has become particularly interested in the encounter between poetry and music, as a way of bringing together, within the creative process, the paths of expression and meaning.
Amaryllis Tremblay (actor - singer)
Amaryllis Tremblay has worked in film, television and theatre since her adolescence. Her participation in the stage adaptation of La déesse des mouches à feu at Théâtre de Quat’Sous, performed by 11 young actresses and co-directed by Alix Dufresne and Patrice Dubois, marked a turning point in both her career and her life. Beginning in 2017, she appeared in Philippe Lesage’s Genèse, Marianne Métivier’s Celle qui porte la pluie and Ivan Grbovic’s Drunken Birds. Her portrayal of Chantal, an introverted and sensitive young woman, in Katerine Martineau’s short film Les filles ne marchent pas seules la nuit earned her the Breakout Performance Award at the Canadian Film Festival in 2021. On television, she has appeared in the series Clash, Écrivain public and Indéfendable. In 2021, she received the Gémeaux Award for Best Youth Female Performance for her portrayal of Florence, a spirited young girl living with cystic fibrosis, in the series Six degrés.
Hiboux (cello - voice - objects)
I - sound healer, cellist, acousmatic composer, percussionist, rhythmanalyst & digital luthier - am based on Tio’tia / Montréal / Mooniyang. My actions and research revolve around performance, healing and the Sacred, in an “immanent relation” to Time and Reality, to birds and Water, as well as to gestures, noises… to Music, after all! My training in acousmatics at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal is at the root of an anthropological inquiry into the problem of electroacoustic omniscience. Since then, the notions of community, listening and Presence to the Other have revealed themselves as essential to the resonance of my creative practice. Great labours have been unfolding within me since this revelation. My practice lies at the intersection of experimental ethnomusicology, instrument building and performance. The techno-political questions of memory and schizophonia are at the heart of my concerns. Some of my waves have been felt in Montréal, Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Brussels and Hong Kong.
