Brazilian interdisciplinary artist, Thais Montanari defended in 2022 her doctoral thesis "Musical creation as a space for collective exchange and social debate" in the research-creation program in Composition and Sound Creation, at the University of Montreal. As a researcher and creator, Montanari is interested in interdisciplinarity and collaboration between artists. Through her projects, she seeks to create a space-time where artists and the public can share ideas related to politics and sociology. Artistically, she is drawn to the use of images, sounds and everyday situations as well as exploring the concept of the open work. In parallel, she is interested in pedagogical art projects and cultural mediation within certain groups, such as homeless people, youth in schools or disadvantaged rural communities.
