Living in Quebec since the early 2000s, Thibault Bertin-Maghit is a double bassist, arranger, and artistic director originally from southeastern France. Deeply involved in the chamber music scene, he is best known as the Artistic Director of collectif9, a string nonet he founded in 2011, for which he has designed many ambitious and critically acclaimed productions.

Under his direction, collectif9 has performed across North America, Europe, and Asia, producing four albums and as many film-concerts. His creations have led to numerous awards and nominations, most recently a Juno Award (Rituæls, 2024) and the Opus Award for Performer of the Year in 2025: the same year, Thibault was named Artistic Director of the Year at the Opus Awards for his work with the ensemble. His arrangements of classical and contemporary repertoire have been recorded by collectif9 for Alpha Classics and Analekta and are published by Oxingale Music.

Thibault is dedicated to developing collaborative projects with a wide range of artists, creating unique stage and digital experiences. He is regularly invited to speak about his creative and artistic direction work at universities and in professional and educational programs. Since 2023, he has had the great pleasure of co-directing a chamber music workshop at the Orford Music Academy.

A double bassist active in both early and contemporary music, Thibault has been invited to join numerous ensembles, including Infusion Baroque, No Hay Banda, Tafelmusik, Arion Orchestre Baroque, the SMCQ, Les Violons du Roy, the Nouvel ensemble moderne, and Les Idées heureuses. He studied at the Conservatoire d’Aix-en-Provence before completing a Master’s degree in Music at the Université de Montréal and participating in baroque, contemporary, chamber, and orchestral music festivals throughout Europe and North America.

In 2025, Thibault was appointed Artistic Director of the festival Concerts aux Îles du Bic (Rimouski, Qc), taking over from James Darling, co-founder and artistic director of the festival since its creation in 2002.
