Katia Makdissi-Warren
An innovative composer, she has made a name for herself on the national and international scenes for her unique style, which brings together Middle Eastern, Western and Aboriginal music. In 2006, she founded the Oktoécho ensemble, specialising in cross-fertilisation, for which she regularly composes and acts as artistic director. Her fusion aesthetic has led her to work regularly, as composer, ensemble director and performer, with Aboriginal, Arab and Jewish communities.
As well as being very involved with various cultural communities, Katia Makdissi-Warren is very active in the world of contemporary concert music, having received commissions from ensembles such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the National Oriental Orchestra of Beirut, I Musici de Montréal, the McGill Chamber Orchestra and the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+).
