A French national, Charles Chiovato Rambaldo's passion for music stems from his childhood love of the Brazilian batucada. At the age of seven, he began his studies at the Conservatoire Régional de Lyon under the tutelage of Raphaëlle Frey-Maibach in Afrocuban percussion, and with Jean-Luc Rimey-Meille, Pierre Rouyer and Attilio Terlizzi in classical percussion. After moving to Los Angeles at the age of sixteen, Charles continued his studies at the Colburn School of Music Academy with renowned orchestral percussionist Ted Atkatz. Selected as principal percussionist of the CYO (Colburn Youth Orchestra), he had the opportunity to participate in broadcast concerts at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts, as well as live concerts with the Colburn Academy Youth Percussion Ensemble led by Ken McGrath. After turning eighteen, Charles moved to Montreal to study with Fabrice Marandola and complete a Bachelor of Music Performance at McGill University's Schulich School of Music, graduating in June 2022. In summer 2021, Charles won first prize in the keyboard category of the International Percussion Youth Competition Belgium and second prize in the snare drum category of the International Percussion Youth Competition Belgium.
He is currently in his first year of a master's degree at the Schulich School of Music McGill and will take advantage of these two years of advanced training with Fabrice Marandola to take part in a number of international percussion competitions.
