Patrick Nickleson is a settler music historian who writes, teaches, collaborates, and broadcasts from amiskwaciywaskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta). Patrick’s research on music and property has appeared in American Music, Journal of the Royal Musical Association, and, in collaboration with Dylan Robinson, in the Affect Theory Reader 2 and Raven Chacon: A Worm’s Eye View from a Bird’s Beak. His book the Names of Minimalism explores authorship disputes between former collaborators in musical minimalism. Patrick is Assistant Professor of Musicology at the University of Alberta, where he is working on a SSHRC-funded project, How Music Renders Property, on song dispossession under settler colonialism.
