Pauline Oliveros (1932–2016) was an iconic American accordionist and composer, a pioneer of electronic music and a leading figure of 1970s minimalism. A founding member of the San Francisco Tape Music Center, which she later directed, she also taught at Mills College, the University of California, San Diego, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The creator of the concept of Deep Listening, she profoundly influenced approaches to listening, opening new horizons for contemporary music and sonic awareness.
