Zipangu (1980)

Program notes

"Zipangu" was the name given to Japan at the time of Marco Polo. Around a melody, I explore different aspects of "color" in this work. I have tried to "blur" my harmonic structures by using different bowing techniques. Thus, a colored noise obtained by exaggerated pressure of the bow on the strings is opposed to the pure harmonics when one returns to the normal technique. A melody becomes colored (chords), becomes lighter and returns little by little as purified and solitary.
