Spationautes II (2019)
Program notes
Commissioned by SuperMusique, for ensemble of musicians-improvisers, spatialized electroacoustic tape* and interactive projections
Spationautes is initially a graphic work, an imaginary world in five dimensions that I created in the form of drawings. Each dimension represents a distinct cosmological point of view: cosmos, ether, landscape, jungle and hypogeum (the latter being a somewhat strange microscopic underground world). The drawings of these five parallel 'space-times' serve as a canvas, orchestration and inspiration for the musical improvisation.
Accompanied by electroacoustic tracks linked to each dimension, three crews of musician-spationauts will choose their exploratory route in these five dimensions, since drawn passages allow them to cross from one to the other. The interactive computer system allows the teams to modify their routes as the work unfolds. The electroacoustic framework follows the musicians, as do the projections that allow the images played by each of the three teams to be seen and their movements followed.
As the work has different contents and paths for each performance, we will perform two different versions during the concert.
