Mark Morton

MARK MORTON has established himself as a dynamic percussionist with great versatility, having performed with many professional ensembles and collaborated with numerous Canadian contemporary classical musicians. A founding member of Architek Percussion in Montreal, Mark had the pleasure of touring in Europe, parts of the United States, and throughout Canada. Mark was a finalist in the 2015 OSM Manulife Competition, and was featured in 2016 as part of CBC Music’s “30 hot classical musicians under 30”.
 
Mark holds a Master of Music from McGill University, where he studied orchestral and chamber percussion with Aiyun Huang and Fabrice Marandola. During his time at McGill, Mark developed an affinity for the music of John Cage and the use of non-traditional and novelty instruments in percussion writing. Mark also holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Dalhousie University.
Mark is a member of the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy and enjoys performing as a freelancer with a variety of ensembles in the Halifax area including Symphony Nova Scotia.
