Hide to show speaks about solitude, but also about synchronizing with others without seeing them; about being observed, choosing to make oneself visible or not, and replacing oneself in multiple ways.

The spotlights turn towards the backstage, while the musicians prepare for the performance in front of the audience, each alone in their small private room. They play a few notes, change clothes, or dance to the music they're listening to on headphones. It's not only the musicians' movements on stage that are considered musical material: Beil's list of artistic ingredients now includes their actions in the privacy of backstage. But not everything is revealed to us. The musicians conceal themselves behind their costumes, curtains that rise and fall, or even recordings of themselves, so that the real person ultimately remains invisible. The parallel with social media quickly becomes apparent. Hide to show explores hyperreality, the way we superimpose virtual layers on our lives, the way we copy and paste into what we call our reality.
