Michael Schmid
Michael Schmid is a musician and flutist specializing in contemporary and experimental music. A permanent member of the Belgian ensemble Ictus, he has worked as a chamber musician and soloist with most of the major European new music ensembles. In addition to his work as a flutist, he performs as a sound poetry artist, creates sound installations, and composes sound art pieces. His output is closely linked to his interest in political issues and in the communicative processes involved in musical creation.
His most recent solo appearances and creations include Breathcore and Beat fucked Elf at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels), as well as Krạchal at BEAF – Bozar Electronic Arts Festival in Brussels. Recent collaborations include projects with choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Rosas), Boris Charmatz, Jérôme Bel, Manon de Boer (documenta 13), Georges Aperghis, Brynjar Sigurdarson, and the Fondation Lafayette Anticipation (Paris).
He has recorded for the labels Cyprès, HAT Records, cpo, WERGO, and Stradivarius.
