Emily Yabe earned a bachelor’s degree in music at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, her hometown, and went on to pursue postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden, where she obtained a diploma in orchestral music and a soloist diploma under Professor Ivan Ženatý, completing her studies in 2012.
During her studies in Tokyo, she began working with contemporary artists. In 2002, she was awarded a scholarship prize at the Darmstadt Summer Course. In 2008, she received the special prize for the best interpretation of a 20th-century work at the international “Queen Sophie Charlotte” Competition, and in 2010 she received a DAAD award. She was also a fellow of the Hellerau Academy for Experimental Music Theatre in 2010/11.
Emily has taken part in masterclasses with Vadim Gluzman, Ulf Hoelscher, Kevork Mardirossian, Miklós Perényi, Benjamin Schmid, Thomas Brandis, Ensemble Modern, and Ensemble Recherche.
She has worked with numerous contemporary artists and composers, including Mark Andre, Saskia Bladt, Adriana Hölszky, Sven-Ingo Koch, György Kurtág, Helmut Lachenmann, Helmut Oehring, Enno Poppe, and Manos Tsangaris, and has given world premieres in Europe and Asia.
