Following studies in Musicology and History of Musical Theater, as well as in Art History at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, Matthieu Galliker began a doctoral thesis in 2022 at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Music, focusing on the imitation of birdsong in human music from 1950 to the present day. As a member of the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de création et de recherche en musique (OICRM), the Analysis, Creation, and Teaching ORchestration (ACTOR) group and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), his interests range from zoomusicology —notably concerning the relationship between human and non-human cultures— to the musical semiotics, and include a particular focus on integrating reflections on both the compositional process and music perception.
