Mateo Barrera
Originally from Colombia and based in Montreal since 2015, Mateo Barrera is a lighting designer, technical director, set designer, and musician. Above all, he is a multidisciplinary artist driven by a passion for transforming creative ideas into compelling live experiences, using technical expertise as a tool for artistic expression.
After studying theatre, music, and scenic design in Colombia, Mateo moved to Canada to complete a specialization in Stage Techniques at the École du Show Business in Montreal. Since then, he has collaborated with acclaimed artists, companies, and cultural institutions including Andrea Peña & Artists, Tim Brady, Helen Simard, Parts+Labour_Danse, Van Grimde Corps Secrets, Agora de la danse, Tangente, and the Festival TransAmériques (FTA).
His work is recognized for bridging the gap between technical execution and artistic vision. Whether working as a lighting designer, technical director, or technical coordinator, Mateo develops thoughtful and innovative production solutions while supporting creative teams from concept through performance.
