Julia Úlehla
Dr. Julia Úlehla is a settler vocalist, composer, and scholar currently serving as Project Manager of the Indigenous Advisory Council at the Canadian Music Centre (CMC), which advises on matters related to cultural appropriation and misuse of Indigenous songs, story, and culture, and uplifts Indigenous-led models of creation, collaboration, and presentation. She also sits on the Accountability for Change Council, which supports the CMC board in promoting equity, social justice, and decolonization. Her work toward transforming systemic harms in new music is further informed by previous roles in curation (Music on Main) and postsecondary teaching and curriculum development (University of British Columbia’s School of Music). As a vocalist, she has moved through many different performance contexts including opera, new music, improvisation, laboratory theatre, and experimental music.
