A mezzo-soprano with a velvety, brilliant and generous voice, Ariane Girard has been working with the great masters in Quebec and Europe for over 15 years. A great lover of orchestral music, she is passionate about her favourite repertoire, which includes Mahler's works for voice and orchestra and sacred music. The finesse of her interpretations and her great mastery of the vocal repertoire also make her a brilliant recitalist.
The Lac-Saint-Jean-born opera singer is a winner of the Canadian Music Competition's Grand Prize, second prize in the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières competition, and a finalist in the Maria Callas Grand Prix, the Concours International de Chant de Marmande (French mélodie) and the Concorso per cantanti lirici in Alcamo. In recital, she has given outstanding performances of vocal works by Brahms, Dvorak, Schumann, Massenet and Strauss. In Mahler's Rückert Lieder and Kindertoten Lieder, Mozart's and Verdi's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat and Palmeri's Missa Tango, her voice blends harmoniously with the fullness of the orchestra to touch the audience.
Her fascination with vocal technique has led the mezzo-soprano to devote more than 10 years to teaching professional and emerging singers. A principal voice teacher at the Atelier lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal since 2016, she is renowned for the clarity and effectiveness of her teaching as well as her rapid diagnosis of vocal problems, making her a favourite guest to give master classes and sit on juries for competitions and auditions.
In addition to her career as a singer and teacher, Ariane Girard is the devoted mother of three little treasures, including twin girls who arrived in the midst of a pandemic.
