Hellerau — European Centre for the Arts Dresden (Hellerau — Europäisches Zentrum Der Künste Dresden) — originally the Hellerau Festival Theatre built in 1911 — is one of the most important interdisciplinary centres for contemporary arts in Germany. Hellerau presents contemporary dance, music theatre, contemporary classical music, theatre, performance art, and new media. It is also a place for reflection on art and culture. Its biennal TonLagen — Dresdner Festival der zeitgenössischen Musik (TonLagen — Dresden Festival for Contemporary Music) (formerly Dresdener Tage der zeitgenössischen Musik (Dresden Days for Contemporary Music)) has been existing since 1986. The festival presents the actual tendencies in experimental music of different genres within a period of ten days in October.
