2021-22 Season

Le Vivier is pleased to announce the appointment of a dynamic duo to its artistic direction, that combines competence, experience and knowledge of the milieu. The tandem of Julie Legault and Jeffrey Stonehouse has impressed the Board of Directors, who are entrusting them with a renewable term of four years.

More than ever, Le Vivier will be a rallying point for artists and citizens, a specialized stage offering a major forum for the dissemination and democratization of new music in all its diversity, says Cléo Palacio-Quintin, the board's new president.

Julie Legault and Jeffrey Stonehouse will carry out the Artistic Director mandate together. Julie will be responsible for cultural mediation, young audience programming and events outside the regular programming. Jeffrey will be responsible for Le Vivier’s general programming, international relations and will be the spokesperson for the organisation. Together they will ensure a link with Le Vivier’s membership and will bring their vision and contribution to Le Vivier's new anchoring project.

As a meeting point and a vehicle for positive change, Le Vivier's community-oriented structure is its main strength, says Jeffrey Stonehouse. I am eager to work with my colleagues to present the best of Québec's new music scene in all its diversity. The next period is crucial for Le Vivier as we work to build a new home. This anchoring project will provide a space that fosters connections between artists and audiences, offers support and guidance to the creative process and provides the new music community with a state-of-the-art performance space.

The new music scene in Montreal is rich and diverse, says Julie Legault. With Le Vivier, our members are increasingly reaching out to the rest of the city, as well as internationally. I am happy to join Le Vivier with humility, respect and deep admiration for the members of this organization. I hope to contribute to making their art known by reaching new audiences. Supporting this goal cultural mediation, building on curiosity, openness and sensitivity, is an essential tool for introducing young and old alike to new music.

This appointment was welcomed with joy by the Vivier team, who are excited about working with the new artistic director. For Christine Curnillon, the Vivier's general director, the presence of this complementary duo will be an essential reinforcement in working to promote creative music in the heart of the city:

I have confidence in the creativity, expertise and enthusiasm of Julie and Jeffrey. I am convinced that together we will be able to maintain a stimulating dialogue with the local and international artistic community, as well as with the public; solid links that are necessary in this context of recovery that we are going through. We are ready to invent what's next!
