:blurt is based on a section of the painting Trafalgar Square by Piet Mondriaan. The piece is broken up into highly differentiated segments, some of which are related, all of which are strictly regulated and characterised. Closely allied to this structure are cinematic images which were chosen with respect to the colours involved. :blurt makes use of many extended instrumental techniques, through which different aspects of both the physical appearance as well as the acoustical reality of string playing is explored.
