Trio ZUKAN is a young and innovative musical group created in 2014 under the auspices of Musikene. The promotion of contemporary artistic creation and the dissemination of 21st century music are the hallmarks of this group, which combines the varied skills of its members to create fresh and dynamic performances full of detail and rigour. The three members of ZUKAN coincide in their passion for contemporary chamber music, a discipline that they complement with their knowledge of orchestral, traditional or ancient music.
ZUKAN differs in its internal functioning from the majority of small chamber ensembles. Since its birth, ZUKAN has been a mixture of duos (txistu-accordion, accordion-percussion and, closing the circle, percussion-txistu) to which is added the complete trio formation. The same name, the same way of working, the same spirit, but four different and totally contrasting instrumental arrangements.
Wind and percussion sounds that confront each other or unite in the figure of the txistulari are simply the starting point of the wide range of sound possibilities of this ensemble. An endless world of new timbral combinations, extreme dynamic range, the possible polyphony of all the instruments and many more are the advantages that ZUKAN offers and that today's composers wish to exploit.
Although percussion, accordion and txistu have their origins in tradition, the redesigned versions of these instruments and the very spirit of ZUKAN force us to seek new goals. Current music, newly created, essential to expand the repertoire and give a new voice to our old instruments. This is the origin of an intense work of collaboration with the current compositional panorama, commissioning, revising, premiering and disseminating new music and betting on innovation.
