An inventive and dynamic musician and the founder and artistic director of collectif9, double bassist and arranger Thibault Bertin-Maghit finds his inspiration from multiple sources, from experimental to early music and other mediums. Based in Montreal since 2004, Thibault completed a master's degree in music at the University of Montreal and has participated in numerous baroque, contemporary, chamber and orchestral music festivals in Europe and North America.
Thibault’s artistic projects include award-nominated albums and films, concept programmes, and multimedia productions, and his work is regularly shown and heard internationally. His creative chamber arrangements of classical and contemporary repertoire have been recorded and played by collectif9 and are published by Oxingale Music. Thibault is dedicated to the development of projects in collaboration with a diverse array of artists, creating singular live and digital experiences. He has been a guest lecturer on his creative and leadership work in music at the University of Montréal and he has been featured on professional and educational platforms such as accelerando.media and Entrepren’arts.
In another life, he could be found playing piano, drums or electric bass in indie rock and heavy metal bands. Today, Thibault devotes a large part of his time to developing collectif9 projects and developing future collaborations, but he can also be found on stage with early and contemporary music ensembles, including Tafelmusik, Arion Baroque Orchestra, Les Idées heureuses, No Hay Banda, and others. Since 2022, Thibault's arrangements have been published by the publishing house Oxingale Music.
