5ilience

5ilience is a new Montreal-based ensemble of five emerging artists with a passion for chamber music.

Our quintet, composed of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon played respectively by Léanne Teran-Paul, Mariane Pellerin, Thomas Gauthier-Lang, Gwénaëlle Ratouit and Alex Eastley, has established itself as the very first reed quintet in Quebec. It is through the combination the timbral specificities of the instruments in this formation that we have developed a palette of sounds as unique as it is versatile.

Following in the footsteps of the very first reed quintet, the Calefax ensemble, founded in 1985, 5ilience is dedicated to expanding the existing reed quintet repertoire by developing new works by emerging and established composers, and is committed to showcasing the vast possibilities of its formation by touching on many styles of music.

Our ensemble made its debut in November 2022 at the Si je pouvais m'ancrer concert presented at Montreal's Sala Rossa, programming works around our relationship to time and premiering new pieces by composers Simon Bourget and Romain Camiolo. Since then, 5ilience has performed at the Festival de Lanaudière and during the OSM's Virée Classique in summer 2023, and is currently developing a multidisciplinary show that will close the 2023-2024 Code D'accès season: Flore Temporelle. Our events for discovery-seeking communities are based on innovative musical programming, the creation of links between various artistic disciplines, and the development of projects that highlight the depth and richness of the relationships forged with our collaborators.
