Stéphan La Roche
Director of Music, Dance and Territorial Action — Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec
A seasoned cultural administrator, Stéphan La Roche was appointed by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec to the position of Director of Music and Dance in May 2008. In April 2009, Territorial Action—the coordination of all the Conseil’s international events and regional interventions—was added to his management responsibilities.
In the past, La Roche had been involved in the re-launch of Palais Montcalm in Québec, first as the project coordinator in charge of the planning and implementation of the music centre concept, then as general manager (August 2006) of the new Palais Montcalm.
La Roche trained as a lawyer and, through the course of his various culture-related mandates, has touched upon all artistic and cultural disciplines. He has been assistant chief of staff at the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec (1995-1997) where he coordinated the preparatory work for and drafting of the stage arts promotion policy Remettre l’art au monde in 1996; Conseil Secretary and Director of Planning and Coordination at the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (1997-1998); General Manager of the Québec office of the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles du Québec (SODEC) (1998-2000), and; Director of Cultural Services at the Délégation générale du Québec à Paris (2001-2004).
