Pierre Béluse
Pierre Béluse was a pioneer of percussion in Quebec: he played in several Montreal ensembles, including the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, creating numerous works for ensemble and soloist; he taught at McGill University from 1967 to 2001, where he founded the McGill Percussion Ensemble. An in-demand performer and renowned teacher, Pierre Béluse has also collaborated with numerous composers (notably Walter Boudreau, alcides lanza, Olivier Messiaen and Gérard Grisey), influencing percussion creation in Quebec and internationally. A versatile percussionist, he has also played drums in several jazz ensembles and directed the percussion ensemble Concept Neuf, specializing in transcriptions and arrangements of popular and world music.
