Paul Bazin earned a PhD degree form McGill University in 2020, where his research focused on Ivan Wyschnegradsky’s musical legacy. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice from the Université de Sherbrooke (2010) and a Master’s Degree in Musicology from the Université de Montréal (2013), for which his research concentrated on the analysis of Serge Garant’s art songs. In the Spring of 2016, this research on Serge Garant obtained the SOCAN Foundation/MusCan prize for research in Canadian music. With funding from many institutions (SSHRC, BAnQ, OICRM, and McGill University), Paul Bazin gave a number of presentations (OICRM, SQRM, MusCan) and authored several texts for the journals Circuit, musiques contemporaines, Les Cahiers de la SQRM and Intersections, the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism and a chapter in the recent book Artistic Migration and Identity (Huebner & Lazzaro [eds.], 2020). In 2019, he co-edited an issue of Circuit (Les voies de la pansonorité) with Professor Robert Hasegawa (McGill University).

Beyond his academic pursuits, Paul Bazin acts as Administrative Coordinator and Editorial Secretary for music journal Circuit, musiques contemporaines, in addition to working for many institutions and ensembles as a cultural worker: SQRM, ECM+, NEM, SMCQ, Le Vivier, CMC Qc, ATMA Classique, Quatuor Bozzini and Codes d’accès. As a chorister, he participated in Ensemble Caprice’s rendition of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (Matthias Maute, cond.) and sang in the 2016 world premiere of Chants Libres’ production of Kristin Norderval's opera The Trials of Patricia Isasa.
