Jean Boivin
Jean Boivin is a full professor at Université de Sherbrooke and holds a Diplôme d’études approfondies from Université de Paris IV-Sorbonne and a Ph.D. in Musicology from Université de Montréal. His research work focuses on contemporary music history in Quebec and Europe. He has received several awards for his book La classe de Messiaen (Christian Bourgois, 1995). Boivin has been invited to many international conferences and has contributed to various collective works (published by Garland, Einaudi, Actes Sud, IQRC, Ashgate, Symétrie, and soon Vrin) and periodicals. The Conseil québécois de la musique gave him the Best Paper award twice. He was part of the committee that organized the Messiaen 2008 International Centenary Conference (Birmingham, UK) and two study days on Messiaen at Université de Montréal (December 2008). That same year, he gave several lectures as part of that composer’s 100th birthday. He has presided the Société québécoise de recherche en musique from 1998 to 2001 and was the head of the Music Department at Université de Sherbrooke from 2003 to 2006.
