Gabrielle Martin is a performer, composer, and creator from Montreal. With over 20 years of musical experience under her belt, she is currently engaged in various musical and multidisciplinary projects with a diverse array of artists.
She first immersed herself in the world of music through piano and violin lessons. Later, she shifted her focus to the double bass, driven by an interest in orchestral playing. Several years later, in 2021, she earned her Master’s degree in double bass from the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal with Joel Quarrington. Following that, she began a Bachelor’s degree in contemporary instrumental composition at the same institution with Maxime McKinley. She quickly pivoted towards composing for film, completing a graduate program dedicated to this discipline at UQAM: D.E.S.S. in film music (2023). She is currently finishing her Bachelor’s degree in instrumental music at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, this time with Nicolas Gilbert. Embracing her somewhat adventurous life, she also juggles a multitude of professional activities, performing with various orchestras such as the Orchestre de l’Agora, teaching double bass at several institutions, and working on compositions for film music, concert pieces, and music for other media (dance, theater, installation, and more!).
