Christina Volpini (b. 1992) is a Canadian composer whose music has been described as “very nuanced, rustling and whispering” (Neomemoire) and “focused intently on the subtle sounds that fall between the cracks.” (Ludwig Van Toronto). Informed by the ephemerality and spontaneity of natural sonic environments, her work explores gradual unfolding through time, found objects, sonic spatialization, instrumental textures and liminal spaces. Her music has been performed and commissioned by Esprit Orchestra, Array Ensemble, Continuum Contemporary Music, Echéa Quartet, Bakarlari Ensemble, Caution Tape Sound Collective, Duo AIRS, Made in Canada Guitar Duo and the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble with performances in Toronto, Montréal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, New York and throughout the U.S. east coast. Her work has been featured by organizations including the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Soundstreams and The Music Gallery, and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, SOCAN Foundation, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. An avid arts administrator, Christina was a core organizer of both the Montreal Contemporary Music Lab (LMCML) and the Toronto Creative Music Lab (TCML). Originally from Niagara Falls, Christina is currently based in Hamilton, Ontario.’
