LE VIVIER CONTINUES THE DEPLOYMENT OF ITS EMERGING ARTISTS PROGRAM

The first year of the Emerging Artists Program, our incubation, support, distribution, and circulation program for emerging works funded by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (CALQ), has proven to be a year rich in artistic projects. This initial deployment, which has been structurally organized on a daily basis throughout the year, has enabled various artists to receive financial support, mentoring according to their needs, promotion, and much more.

As a reminder, our Emerging Artists Program supports emerging projects in incubation, distribution, and circulation throughout the territory of Quebec through various forms of mentoring, visual identity ideation, and presentations to an international delegation that further professionalize artists and prepare them for the music scene. During this year, under the supervision of Julie Vachaudez, project manager of the Emerging Artists Program, artists have had access to rehearsal spaces to facilitate their creative phase.

Le Vivier has always been committed to supporting the community of emerging artists in new music. This commitment is already expressed through the emerging members programmed throughout the seasons and the Vivier interUniversitaire (ViU) since 2015, whose objective is to promote contemporary music creation within various higher education institutions in Montreal. This season, and since Jeffrey Stonehouse's arrival as artistic director, Le Vivier has sought to go further by supporting emerging young artists more strongly in the development of their first artistic projects and enabling them to acquire skills and master their visibility for the coming years.

The Missions of the Emerging Artists Program

Through this Emerging Artists Program, Le Vivier aims to develop, with, by, and for young artists, a hub for professionalization, resource sharing, and artistic exploration to support their initiatives, with the goal of developing an audience and experiences in contemporary music in collaboration with partners in the region. How does this translate into action?

During its prototyping phase, the deployment of the Emerging Artists Program began with a selection of artists and projects that Le Vivier and its artistic direction wished to support. The support process can then begin. Le Vivier connects the musicians and provides them with initial guidance and tools to develop their projects.

Once this initial training phase is established, the ensembles, still accompanied and supported by Le Vivier, execute their action plans according to their needs: developing a communication strategy, visual identity, artistic mentoring, coordination, residency releases, and grant applications.

In addition to this mentoring mission, Le Vivier commits to programming these ensembles during its cultural seasons and connecting them with presenters outside of Montreal.

Our achievements

Following our commitment this year, we will continue to provide all the necessary support for the development of artistic projects. With the assistance of Julie Vachaudez, the Emerging Artists Program has become more structured, enabling us to identify the recurring needs of artists and implement high-quality mentoring from members of the industry.

Here is what we are proud to have supported this year:

  • An international proposal - Paris / IRCAM
  • Presentations of projects in front of an international delegation
  • 6 accompanied artistic projects
  • 5 presentations in Montreal
  • 1 screening at the cinema
  • 2 residency releases in the territory of Quebec with mediation activities
  • 550 hours of coaching and mentoring aimed at professionalization and the implementation of promotional tools (capturing, photography) and circulation (technical sheets, and touring), creating bridges with new partners in the region, engaging in dialogue with a new audience.
  • 7 partnership collaborations that continue to welcome projects supported by the Emerging Artists Program

For the next editions, there are 7 new artistic projects, each as promising as the next, which will be presented in Montreal and circulated throughout the territory of Quebec via the Emerging Artists Program.
