Premiered in November 2013 at Western Front in Vancouver, this concert resonates to the frequencies of Fluxus, the celebrated movement of the 1960s. While committed to the art of our day, Quasar freely draws inspiration from Fluxus, responding to it with new works and one “classic.” Interpret this music however you will (a pointed political critique, a game of chance, a silent film reinvented, a jazz homage?), it sets up palpable yet invisible links between sound and movement. With their characteristic energy and commitment on display in acoustic and electronic settings, the members of Quasar give voice here to intrepid independent composers. Fluxus or Not Fluxus?
